A new resident moves in Hayvenhurst, Bubbles the chimp. He becomes Michael’s constant companion!

 

 

Michael accepts to star in Captain EO, a 3D short film produced by Disney. He visits George Lucas at his Skywalker Ranch and records two songs for the project.

 

 

January 15-21: Michael Jackson & Lionel Richie go to each other’s home to write & composed the song We Are The World for famine relief in Ethiopia (Michael is the godfather to Lionel Richie’s daughter Nicole Richie)

 

 

January 22: Michael goes to the Lion Share Recording Studio on

Beverly Boulevard
with Emmanuel Lewis to record a demo version of We Are The World with Quincy Jones, Lionel Richie & Stevie Wonder.

 

 

January 24: The demo tape of We Are The World is sent to all the artists who accepted to take part in the projects.

 

 

January 28: Michael arrives first at A&M Recording Studio to record a vocal chorus with Quincy Jones. Later 44 other artists joins him directly from the American Music Awards and they spend the all night recording the song together. Among the participants are Latoya, Jackie, Randy, Marlon & Tito Jackson, Diana Ross, Stevie Wonder, Lionel Richie, Smokey Robison, Ray Charles, Bette Midler,Tina Turner, Cyndi Lauper, Bruce Spingsteen, Bob Dylan, Dionne Warwick, Harry Belafonte, Bob Geldof, Bonnie Pointer, Billy Joel & Paul Simon.

 

 

February: Wait, the last single from the Victory album I released by Epic.

 

 

February 14: Michael helps with the delivery of Valentino, a baby deer born to his pet deers Prince & Princess at Hayvenhurst.

 

 

February 23: Michael appears on the cover of TV Guide.

 

 

March 7: The single We Are The World is released by

 

 

March 26: Michael arrives in London .

 

 

March 27: Michael attends the futuristic musical starlight Express at the Apollo Theater Victoria in London and meets the cast backstage.

 

 

March 28: 8000 screaming fans welcome Michael at Madame Tussaud’s wax museum where he unveils his wax model.

 

 

March 29: Michael visit a London hospital  where he views the skeleton of John Merrick, the Elephant Man. Later, he attends an evening party & reception in his honour, CBS Records present him with a platinum wall-mounted plaque.

 

 

The album and Video cassette of We Are The World are released.

 

 

April: Michael & seven members of USA For Africa are on the cover of Life magazine.

 

 

Michael & his new friend Elizabeth Taylor go to see Liza Minnelli’s comeback tour.

 

 

April 1: Michael flies home aboard a Concord !

 

 

April 8: Michael & Lionel Richie are on the cover of Jet Magazine.

 

 

April 18: Julian Shapiro, Michael’s aide says that Michael is working on a movie and soundtrack of Peter Pan with Steven Spielberg.

 

 

May 10: Michael visits the Brandywine River   Museum ’s exibit of paintings by N.C Wyeth.

 

 

May 14: Michael receives a royalty cheque from Epic Records for $53 millions for sales of the Thriller album.

 

 

June/July/August: Michael rehearse and film the 3D short film Captain EO produced by George Lucas & Francis Ford Coppola and featuring Angelica Huston.

 

 

He hires Michael Bush & Dennis Tompkins as his personal costume designers.

 

 

July 30: Michael severely sprains his right hand during the filming of Captain EO. He is treated at the Brotman Memorial Hospital where he also visits a sick fan.

 

 

August: The single Eaten Alive by Diana Ross is released on RCA. The song was recorded in Miami with Michael, Maurice & Barry Gibb.

 

 

Mid August: After ten months of negociation, Michael purchases the ATV song catalogue for $47,5 million. The catalogue comprising over 4000 compositions includes 251 songs by The Beatles. Paul Mac Cartney stops talking to him. Michael rewards attorney John Branca & manager Frank Dileo each with a Rolls Royce to thank them in their help in negociating.

 

 

October 21: Michael visits the Cohuna Wildlife Sanctuary in Perth (Anstralia)

 

 

November 22: Rebbie gives birth to a baby boy named Austin (Auggie)
